Bald Mountain and Artists Bluff, March 7, 2010

Bald Mountain and Artists Bluff loop, 1.5 miles.

Back to Sage's favorite mountain this weekend. I asked if she wanted to do something else, but she insisted upon returning here. I think she's now climbed this mountain at least twenty times.

We had a good day of it. The snow was melting off the rock faces, making the ledges easy to scramble up and over. When we arrived at the top, a family was just making their way downward. They left a handsome snowman on the summit to keep us company.

The day was blue and gorgeous.

After lunching on trail mix and hot chocolate, we made our way over to Artists Bluff. It was an easy walk over a snow-packed trail. When we arrived at the ledges, we were treated to a lovely view of Echo Lake and Franconia Notch.

Getting down was tricky, as the rocks were thinly covered with melting snow, but with care and patience, we made it without injury.

I understand why Sage enjoys coming here. There's a lot of bang for the buck on this hike, and it's nice to watch the same trail change with the seasons.
